Punk rock is a fast, raw, and rebellious style of music that emerged in the mid-1970s as a reaction against the polished excess of mainstream rock. Built on simple, aggressive guitar riffs, driving bass, and short, high-energy songs, punk emphasized attitude and authenticity over technical perfection. Bands like Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash helped define the sound and spirit, pairing stripped-down music with lyrics that challenged authority, social norms, and political systems. Beyond the music, punk rock also became a cultural movement marked by DIY ethics, underground venues, independent record labels, and a distinctive visual style of torn clothing, bold graphics, and anti-establishment imagery.
